Students can gain experience and explore career paths with by going on job shadows, by attending events, participating in internships and attending ROP programs.
Job Shadow
High school students can work with their teachers and local employers to arrange job shadows. In a job shadow experience, the student spends several hours meeting employees, learning about what they do on the job and finding out about what the company does.
Industry Events
Occasionally professional associations offer programs to introduce students to careers.
Steel Day Sept. 18, 2009
www.SteelDay.org/FindEvent American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) sponsors this national event. LB Construction in Roseville (8655 Washington Blvd) will host Steel Day in our area with industry representatives including Architects, Engineers, General Contractors, Vendors and Tool manufacturers.
Internships
High school and college students can explore careers by participating in employer internships. Often you can get credit based on the number of hours you work in either paid or unpaid internships.
