School name: Oakmont High School
Project name: Design Tech IB program
Contacts: Steve Dicus
The Design Tech International Baccalaureate program at Oakmont High School was launched in fall 2009 and is a collaborative effort between a mathematics teacher and a shop teacher. Students enrolled in the program will explore all phases of the product development cycle – idea generation, concept development, product engineering & design, process design, prototyping & testing, manufacturing, and marketing & sales.
The program was developed in partnership with the Sierra STEM CTE Collaborative grant and the Sierra College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT). The CACT has provided access to 3D rapid prototyping and vacuum forming equipment, and technical assistance and training.
NSF Catapult Project
Oakmont High School also served as the first site for the NSF Tech-Explorer Catapult project integrating math into a hands-on project. Watch the movie: STEM Tech-Explorer Catapult – Sierra School Works Applied Math .
